SIM Network Activation

SIMs are shipped active on the network as default. 

You can also request inactive SIMs. Vodacom SIMs can be activated by us remotely in bulk by using the ICCID. 

For manual activation, insert SIM into a phone and dial 100. 


SIM supply

Flickswitch can supply, RICA and activate Vodacom SIMs in bulk. Lead times are typically 3 - 5 business days + shipping. (For orders above 500 SIMs, contact us for lead times).


RICA Registration (KYC)

SIMs cannot be activated if RICA registration is not completed successfully.

Flickswitch can bulk register SIMs for RICA. An additional charge may be added for SIMs RICA'd and activated that have not been supplied by Flickswitch. 


Network RICA limits may be reached. We will assist you to get these lifted. (3-5 working days)


RICA Documents needed: 

- Company letterhead with physical address and VAT registration number included

- Copy of a Directors ID 


SIM Expiry (number recycling)

1. Vodacom prepaid SIM activity rules: 

  • Outgoing chargeable calls are regarded as qualifying activity
  • Active data sessions are deemed as qualifying activity
  • Outgoing chargeable SMS’s are as qualifying activity


Vodacom will delete (recycle) SIMs from the network after 100 days of no usage / qualifying activity.

Once a SIM has been deleted and the number has been recycled the SIM can no longer be used. More information here


2. Vodacom Business Flexi SIM activity rules:

  • SIMs may be recycled after 365 days of no usage


Prepaid Out-Of-Bundle data rates (OOB)

Prepaid: 49c per MB. (1c minimum billing increments billed against normal airtime)

DATA 9600 (CSD) provisioning: 

Vodacom South Africa still offers DATA 9600 (CSD) on their network. This may be relevant to older generation devices. To enable this please contact us and we will facilitate provisioning with the network. 


Data Roaming

Possible on prepaid SIMs. Activate roaming on SIMcontrol platform (SIM detail screen). 

Roaming is billed against normal airtime as per Vodacom roaming rates. More info on roaming here.
