SIM Status - What does each status mean and how does it work?

Modified on Wed, 3 Sep at 2:27 PM

SIMcontrol offers unmatched flexibility when deploying or cancelling SIMs.

Some on billed contract SIM types (such as Vodacom Business Flexi or MTN BAM) can be deployed without incurring SIMcontrol management fees, while still remaining active on the mobile network and ready to be used.

In order to easily manage this SIM lifecycle, the following SIM states are available. These can be seen on the SIMs list or detailed SIM details pages.

(PS: you also have the option to order inactive SIMs, and we can remotely activate them in batches on request. Activation of on billed contracts can take 5-10 days, network dependent).

  • Available on all billing types: (Prepaid, On Billed, Contract)

Managed

SIM is in a managed state and ready for use. Monthly management fees are applicable.

Suspended

SIM has been suspended on SIMcontrol and may be cancelled by the network.

Cancellation period depends on SIM tariff type.

  • Additional state available on "On Billed" contract billing type: (Vodacom or MTN SIMs managed on the "Flickswitch APN" or "Vodacom" networks)

Staged

SIM is ready to be used, but only network tariff fees are billed until usage starts.

No SIMcontrol fees are billed.

Any airtime & SMS usage, or data usage of more than 100kB will automatically transition the SIM

to a "Managed" state where SIMcontrol fee billing starts.

If there is no usage for more than 90 days, the SIM will automatically

move to the "Managed" state to ensure system capacity is provided for.

[Existing SIMs can not be moved to the "Staged" status. This function is purely for new SIM deployment, to give up to 3 month fee lee-way while devices are deployed. An existing Active SIM can not be moved back into Staging.]
